چکیده

NLY 0 two studies on fatty acid turnover in experimental obesity could be found in the literature. In 1943 Salcedo and Stetten (I) determined the rate of lipolysis in yellow congenitally obese mice (CHS silver) using deuterium as their tracer. They used four female mice, followed them for an experimental period of only 9 days, and used as control values the results of Schoenheimer and Rittenberg (2) obtained with a different strain of mice. The exact half-life of fatty acids and daily amount of fatty acid oxidized could not be determined under these conditions. The authors concluded that, in the obese mice, fatty acid half-life time is much longer than in normal mice and that the obese mice probably burn less than normal quantities of depot fatty acids daily. In 1950, Mankin et al. (3) measured turnover of body fat in hypothalamic injury also with the aid of deuterium as a tracer. Only five animals were used, the rats being killed one by one over a span of 24 days. The rats used in this experiment had been operated on 3 months previously and their fat depots were of such size that it was difficult to measure over a period of’24 days the change in isotope concentration. It appeared, however, that the amount of fat mobilized daily by the hypothalamic animals was less than that previously reported for normal rats (4).

Influence of body fat distribution on free fatty acid metabolism in obesity.

UNLABELLED In order to determine whether differences in body fat distribution result in specific abnormalities of free fatty acid (FFA) metabolism, palmitate turnover, a measure of systemic adipose tissue lipolysis, was measured in 10 women with upper body obesity, 9 women with lower body obesity, and 8 nonobese women under overnight postabsorptive (basal), epinephrine stimulated and insulin su...

High Fat Diet with a High Monounsaturated Fatty Acid and Polyunsaturated/Saturated Fatty Acid Ratio Suppresses Body Fat Accumulation and Weight Gain in Obese Hamsters

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a high fat diet with experimental oil consisting of 60% MUFAs (monounsaturated fatty acids) with a P/S ratio of 5 on fat deposition and lipid metabolism in obese hamsters. Hamsters were randomly assigned to a control group and a diet-induced obesity group for nine weeks. Then an additional eight-week experimental period began, during which ...

Turnover of nonessential fatty acids in cardiolipin from the rat heart.

Cardiolipin (CL) is a unique phospholipid (PL) found in the mitochondria of mammalian cells. CL remodeling is accompanied by turnover of its fatty acid acyl groups. Abnormalities in CL remodeling have been found in Barth's syndrome, diabetes, and obesity. The objective of this study was to determine nonessential fatty acid turnover in CL and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) in the rat heart in viv...

Relationship of dietary fat to glucose metabolism.

The relationship between dietary fat and glucose metabolism has been recognized for at least 60 years. In experimental animals, high fat diets result in impaired glucose tolerance. This impairment is associated with decreased basal and insulin-stimulated glucose metabolism. Impaired insulin binding and/or glucose transporters has been related to changes in the fatty acid composition of the memb...

Lipidomic profiling of high-fat diet-induced obesity in mice: importance of cytochrome P450-derived fatty acid epoxides

OBJECTIVE Enzymatic metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids leads to formation of bioactive lipid metabolites (LMs). Previous studies have shown that obesity leads to deregulation of LMs in adipose tissues. However, most previous studies have focused on a single or limited number of LMs, and few systematical analyses have been carried out. METHODS A LC-MS/MS-based lipidomics approach was us...
